Restretch, Repair, or Replace?
Not every tired carpet needs replacing, and it is worth knowing which problem you have before you spend money. Ripples and buckles across a carpet that is otherwise sound are a tension problem, not a wear problem, and worth raising at the estimate before you commit to new carpet. A single damaged area in a carpet you still like can sometimes be patched from a closet remnant. What is not fixable: pile that has matted flat in the traffic lanes, a pad that has broken down and gone crunchy underfoot, stains that wick back after cleaning, and pet odor that has soaked through into the subfloor. Roughly as often as we replace carpet with carpet, we are asked to take carpet out for good. If your house was built before the 1970s there may be hardwood under there already, and restoring a floor you already own beats buying a new one: Maryland hardwood refinishing runs $3 to $8 per square foot. Where there is nothing worth saving, we install new hardwood or waterproof luxury vinyl plank, and we handle the whole job from tear-out to final coat rather than handing you off.
