Floors in Germantown Townhomes and Single-Family Homes

Most of Germantown was built in the last fifty years, a large share of it as townhome communities and single-family subdivisions along the I-270 corridor. Homes from the 1980s and 1990s often have red oak strip flooring in the foyer, hallway and kitchen, with carpet in the living areas, upstairs and on the stairs. That leads to two common projects.

The first is a refinish. The original oak is sanded back to bare wood and refinished, often in a lighter or more neutral color than the amber tone those floors have aged into. Our sanding equipment captures most of the dust at the machine, which matters in a townhouse where the whole main level is one open space.

The second is an extension. The carpet comes up, new oak is woven into the existing floor, and the old and new boards are sanded and finished together so the main level reads as one continuous floor instead of a patchwork.
