AG Construction MD is a carpet installation contractor, not a carpet store. Owner Aaron Goodman measures your rooms, prices the job in writing, and the same owner-supervised crew does the work: old carpet and pad out, subfloor checked and prepped, new pad down, new carpet stretched in and trimmed, debris hauled away. We install carpet from Shaw Floors, Mohawk, Phenix Flooring, and Beaulieu across Montgomery, Howard, Frederick, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Prince George's, and Baltimore Counties in Maryland, and Fairfax, Arlington, and Loudoun Counties in Virginia.

We are a service-area business, so we come to you and there is no showroom to visit. Estimates are free, in person, and carry no obligation. If you are weighing carpet against hardwood or luxury vinyl for the same rooms, say so when we come out: we install all three, and we will price the honest options side by side instead of steering you to one. Call 240-246-4561 or request an estimate online.

Carpet installation is now part of our line of carpet services at AG Construction! As a trusted hardwood flooring contractor throughout the Mid-Atlantic, we’ve recently expanded our service offerings and have quickly become the team of preferred carpet installers across Maryland and Northern Virginia, and the surrounding areas. DIY carpet installation often results in a loose carpet, damage to the subfloor and molding, and a shorter life span for your carpet if it’s installed incorrectly. Our professional carpet installers relieve the stress of your next home improvement project and install your carpet for you.

What Our Customers Are Saying

Aaron and his crew did an amazing job on our floors! I honestly wasn’t sure that the floors were going to be able to be refinished in the condition that they were in but these guys worked miracles! Aaron answered all our questions, responded quickly to calls or texts and made sure that we got what we wanted out of the project. I would highly…

Aaron and his crew exceeded all expectations. I had to reschedule twice, to which Aaron was very accommodating. The team showed up on time, did a phenomenal job with the floors, and thoroughly cleaned the area before leaving. I look forward to working with AG construction again!

AG Construction did a great job repairing and refinishing my hardwood floors. Aaron is professional and responsive and was helpful in guiding me to the right stain choice based on the existing condition of my floors. I never felt pressure and he was flexible with his schedule to accommodate mine. His crew worked hard and kept the mess to a minimum. I highly recommend them.

Original parquet flooring from 1962. AG was on time, got done early, did a fantastic job with some rough spots, and was very reasonable price. Aaron was extremely knowledgeable and knew exactly what should be done.

AG Construction provided an awesome experience refinishing our floors. They were professional, arrived on time and they were very helpful. I love the finished product. It’s like we have new floors and they matched the stain perfectly! Great job!

Choosing Carpet: Fiber, Construction, and Pad

Almost every carpet decision comes down to three choices, and a good carpet contractor walks you through all three before anyone talks price. We install carpet from Shaw Floors, Mohawk, Phenix Flooring, and Beaulieu, which covers the practical range of what most homes need.

Fiber

Nylon is the toughest common fiber and the one to ask about for stairs, hallways, and family rooms. Triexta resists stains well and holds up under kids and dogs. Polyester is softer and easier on the budget but crushes sooner in traffic lanes. Wool is the premium natural option. Olefin shows up in loop carpets and basement installs.

Construction

Plush and Saxony cut piles look formal and show footprints. Frieze twists the yarn so it hides tracks, which is why it wins in busy houses. Berber and level loop wear hard and clean easily, but a snagged loop runs, so think twice with cats. Cut and loop builds in a pattern that disguises soil.

Pad

The pad is not the place to save money. It carries the carpet, absorbs impact, and determines how the floor feels underfoot, and most carpet warranties specify a minimum pad thickness and density. Skimp here and a good carpet wears out early, which is the most common mistake we find when we pull up someone else's install.

Two more things worth knowing before you shop: face weight and twist tell you more about durability than the price tag, and a patterned carpet needs extra material for pattern match, so a patterned floor costs more than its square footage suggests. Our guides to choosing carpet for your home and what carpet installation involves go deeper.

Carpet, Luxury Vinyl Plank, or Hardwood?

We install all three, so we have no reason to push one. Here is how they actually compare in the rooms people ask about.

Carpet

Warm, quiet, soft, and the safest surface underfoot for small kids and older adults. It absorbs sound between floors better than anything else. It cannot be mopped, it holds odor if a pet has an accident, and it is the wrong material for a bathroom, a laundry room, or a basement with a moisture history.

Luxury Vinyl Plank

Waterproof core, wipes clean, handles kitchens, baths, mudrooms, and basements. Harder and louder underfoot than carpet unless you add an underlayment, and when the wear layer eventually goes, it gets replaced rather than refinished.

Hardwood

The longest-lived option and the only one you can refinish instead of replacing, with packages from about $995 in Maryland. It is also the least forgiving of standing water and the most expensive to put in from scratch.

Most of the houses we work in use two of the three: carpet in bedrooms and on stairs, hard surface everywhere else. If that is your plan, we quote the whole thing in one visit. Our blog compares carpet against hardwood, carpet against LVP for bedrooms, and all three side by side for Maryland homes.

Where Carpet Still Wins

  • Bedrooms. Warm underfoot in February, quiet, and forgiving of bare feet at 6am.
  • Stairs. Traction and sound control where both matter most. Wall-to-wall carpet or a runner over exposed treads both work.
  • Basements and media rooms. Carpet kills echo better than any hard surface, which is why home theaters are carpeted. On a slab we talk through moisture first, and sometimes the answer is LVP instead.
  • Upstairs hallways and playrooms. Softer landings and less noise transmitted to the room below. Our post on reducing noise with carpet and underlayment covers the acoustics.
  • Offices and multifamily corridors. Broadloom and carpet tile both have their place in commercial spaces, where sound and cost per square foot drive the decision.

What Drives the Price of a Carpet Job

These are the variables we measure, in the order they usually matter:

  • Square footage, and how it is shaped. Broadloom comes in fixed widths, so an awkward layout creates waste that a simple rectangle does not.
  • The carpet itself. Fiber, face weight, and pattern. This is the number you control most.
  • Pad. Thickness and density, matched to the carpet warranty.
  • Stairs. Priced per tread, not per square foot, because every step is cut and fastened individually.
  • Tear-out and disposal. Old carpet and pad, or a hard surface that has to come up first.
  • Subfloor and trim work. Squeaks, soft spots, tack strip replacement, and doors or molding that have to come off and go back on.

We do not publish a per square foot carpet price, because the honest answer changes with every one of those lines. What we do promise is that Aaron Goodman measures your actual rooms, the estimate is written and free, and you never pay more than what it shows.

Installation Day, and Why Stretching Matters

The visible part of a carpet install takes a day in most homes. The part that decides whether you are happy in five years is tension. Carpet that is laid in loose instead of properly stretched over tack strip develops ripples and buckles across traffic lanes, and by then the only fix is pulling it up again. Seams get planned to fall out of the main sightline and away from the doorways they would otherwise wear open. On stairs each tread and riser is cut and fastened separately with the pile running the same direction down the flight. None of that shows in a photograph, and all of it is why who installs the carpet matters as much as which carpet you buy.

Keeping New Carpet Looking New

  • Vacuum traffic lanes more often than the rest of the room. Soil is abrasive, and grinding it into the pile is what actually wears carpet out.
  • Blot spills, never scrub. Scrubbing untwists the yarn and leaves a permanently fuzzy patch.
  • Put walk-off mats at exterior doors. Most of what wears a carpet arrives on shoes.
  • Check your warranty for professional hot water extraction intervals. Many manufacturers require it on a schedule, often every 12 to 18 months, to keep coverage valid.
  • Use felt pads under furniture legs and rotate heavy pieces occasionally so crush marks have a chance to recover.

Carpet Installation Across Maryland and Northern Virginia

We are a service-area business: we come to you, and there is no showroom to drive to. Carpet goes in across Silver Spring, Chevy Chase, Potomac, northern Baltimore County, Fairfax, and Alexandria, plus the rest of our carpet service area: Montgomery, Howard, Frederick, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Prince George's, and Baltimore Counties in Maryland, and Fairfax, Arlington, and Loudoun Counties in Virginia. Replacing rather than starting fresh? See carpet replacement. Call 240-246-4561 or request a free estimate online.

What Is Included When We Install Your Carpet

"Carpet installer" searches usually mean one real question: what exactly am I paying for? Every carpet installation we quote covers the whole job, not just laying the carpet:

  • An in-person measure and written estimate. Owner Aaron Goodman measures the actual rooms and stairs, free of charge, and the price on the estimate is the price you pay.
  • Old carpet and pad out. Tear-out and disposal are part of the job, so you are not left arranging a dump run.
  • Subfloor check and prep. Squeaks, soft spots, and worn tack strip get handled before anything new goes down.
  • New pad and carpet, properly stretched. The carpet is stretched in over tack strip, seams are planned out of the main sightlines, and stairs are cut and fastened tread by tread.
  • Cleanup and haul-away. Debris leaves with us, and any doors or molding that had to come off go back on.

The work is done by our own owner-supervised crews, the same operation behind our 5.0-star Google rating across 500+ reviews, and AG Construction MD LLC is MHIC licensed (#104041) and insured. If you are comparing carpet installers, ask each one for the license number and a written, itemised estimate. Ours are free: call 240-246-4561.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you remove and dispose of old carpet?
Yes. Removal of the old carpet and pad is part of a standard replacement job, so you are not left arranging disposal yourself.
Which rooms is carpet still the best choice for?
Bedrooms, basements, stairs, and media rooms, anywhere warmth, softness underfoot, and sound absorption matter more than easy mopping.
Should I choose carpet or luxury vinyl plank?
Carpet wins on comfort and quiet; LVP wins on water resistance and easy cleaning. Many of our customers use both, carpet in bedrooms and LVP in kitchens and basements, and we can quote both in one visit.
What does carpet installation cost?
It moves with square footage, the fiber and weight of the carpet you choose, the pad, the number of stairs, how much old flooring has to come out, and whether the subfloor needs repair. We do not publish a per square foot carpet price because the honest answer changes with the carpet. Aaron Goodman measures the actual rooms and gives you a written estimate free of charge, and you never pay more than that estimate shows.
Do you install carpet on stairs?
Yes, and stairs are the most labor-intensive carpet work in a house. Every tread and riser is cut and fastened individually and the pile direction has to stay consistent down the flight. Tell us how many flights you have and whether you want wall-to-wall carpet or a runner over exposed treads, and it goes into the same free estimate.
How long does a carpet installation take?
Most homes are a single-day job: the old carpet and pad come out in the morning and the new carpet is stretched in and trimmed before we leave. Large houses, several flights of stairs, or subfloor repairs can push it into a second day, and we tell you which one yours is before we start.
What is included in your carpet installation service?
The whole job: an in-person measure and written estimate from owner Aaron Goodman, removal of the old carpet and pad, subfloor check and prep, new pad, the new carpet stretched in over tack strip and trimmed, and the debris hauled away. You never pay more than the written estimate shows.
How do I choose a carpet installer?
Check three things: a real license (in Maryland that is MHIC; ours is #104041 and you can verify it on the state register), insurance, and a written estimate from the person answerable for the work. Reviews tell you the rest, and ours are a 5.0-star Google rating across 500+ reviews.
